Last Saturday’s Slumlord Art Show was a powerful, funny event. What’s not so funny is landlords Rob and Candy Hoover spending a bunch of money on art galleries, yachts, and attorneys (who sent us a threatening letter just two days earlier). As parody MC and “Gallerist” Rob Hoover notes, the tenants used a satirical event to express their very real concerns with maintenance and mistreatment.
Moira’s speech highlighted how years of neglect from absentee, art gallery-owning landlords Rob and Candy Hoover have made their buildings unsafe, and the months tenants put into documenting code violations.
Isaac’s speech highlighted the terrible lease terms and mistreatment the Hoovers and their rotating cast of property managers have forced onto tenants over the last few years. We got the receipts to prove it!

Rachel closed it out for our members, reflecting on how in just a few months, tenant leaders have fought off illegal rent increases, got terrible property managers fired, and forced hundreds of thousands of dollars in deferred maintenance.
The Hoovers are still refusing to negotiate… But we’re not giving up!
