Their commonsense demands and fight for community protection have inspired neighbors citywide and established Tacoma as a hotbed in the nationwide tenant union movement resurgence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NYA Tenant Union only launched in December, 2025, but has already spurred organizing in buildings across their landlord\u2019s local portfolio and throughout Tacoma. They have formed a powerful, united voice to fight for each other and take on their absentee landlords.<br><br>Newcastle shares the same absentee, California-based landlords as New York Apartments, who own nearly $22 million worth of rental properties in Pierce County alone.
